Laura Thompson is founder and director of Bacchanalia Baroque Ensemble, an early music group based in New York City. She has performed extensively throughout the US, and is highly regarded as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and educator.
A versatile musician, Laura is equally adept on both modern and historical flutes and has appeared with the American Classical Orchestra, the New York Collegium, the Grand Tour Orchestra, the New York Continuo Collective, the Tafelmusic Festival Orchestra, and at the Longy and Amherst early music festivals. An enthusiastic educator, she is on the faculty at the Westport School of Music in Westport, CT, and is past flute instructor at Brooklyn College, CUNY. She is a guest lecturer and coach at New York University, and teaches privately in Manhattan and in New York’s Hudson Valley.
Laura Thompson will be joined by local musicians including Santa Fe Pro Musica concertmaster Stephen Redfield on violin, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival harpsichordist Kathleen McIntosh, and winner of the Howard Mayer Brown award for outstanding career from Early Music America, Mary Springfels on viola da gamba.
